FRIDAY SHORT TENNIS

I do not actually run this, but I have been playing for many years and we always welcome more players.  It's good fun and good exercise too.

This sports afternoon is run by the White Oak Leisure Centre and for those who prefer Badminton this is also available at the same time.

(I personally prefer Short Tennis, played with a sponge ball).

Our Rules of Play

This game is played on a badminton court.

First Player serves from the right side of the court and ball must go over the net  and land in the diagonally opposite square furthest from the net.  It must not be served into the outer tramlines, that would be "wide" or into the square nearest the net - that would be "short" or into the back tramlines - that would be "long".

After the first player has served once, he/she swaps sides and the ball is then given to the opposing side for their first service.  From then on each side get 2 serves.

(One from the right and then  same player serves from the left)

During play (after the service) in the doubles game all of the court is then in use.

(In the singles game the outer tramlines are not in use)  We normally play doubles games.

The winning team is the first to reach 11.

NB I have played the game of Short Tennis in the West Country and they play it slightly differently.

They allow (as in normal tennis) for a mis-serve to be served again from the same side (ie 2 chances to do a good serve).
